*First, open the "Anti-SpyWare" folder on your Desktop I usually put this Icon on the Desktop

I find using "Right-Click" ==> "Open" the easiest method with the mouse.

Then...

Open the "Scan Now" Icon:

You may see one of these Secunia Icons

Or, if you don't have the icon shortcut, go to this address:

Secunia Online Scanner

Hover your cursor over the hyperlink above
if you want to see the actual address

You will see this page open, but without my green & red colored comments & purple arrows on it.

Step 1: Open the online scanner and wait while the Java Applet is loaded

Note: You may be shown a dialog box asking for permission to run; You must accept this in order to run the scan.

Step 2: Check that the 'Display only insecure programs' option (New) is checked

Step 3: Click the "Start" button when it turns to the blue color you see shown above

Step 4: Click the "Stop" button if any error should occur or if you need to do something else.

Note: you will see the java animation running while the scan is in progress.

And...

An additional note: You will see a dialog box open to tell you when the scan is completed, and you will be invited to be reminded via email when it is time for your next scan. You can do this or not at your discretion.

This Free Online Utility Service Scans Your System For Out-Of-Date Software That Could Be a Security Risk

Virus and Spyware program writers are finding it increasingly difficult to penetrate your new and very effective protection utility software (like AVG AntiVirus).

So they have devised new methods to attempt to break through your protective walls, thus attempting to gain entry into your system. Once they have gained access, they can create all kinds of havoc. One of the worst of the types of virus we see today is a "root kit" or "rootkit"virus and this can get into your system using this older, outdated software to "piggy-back" into your system.

*If I worked on your computer, you will probably see this shortcut on the Desktop. If you don't see it, go to the secunia online scanner by clicking the hyperlink shown, or click this one:

Click Here to read about updating and running SpywareBlaster

Note: while both of these two are important, in my opinion the most important ones are the SpywareBlaster and the Hosts file modification because they work to prevent problems in the first place. This online scanner is another important element in this strategy to prevent problems from occurring.

Read about the Hosts file modification by clicking here.

This is an online forum that I've found I like very much. It is a family oriented site where you can ask or answer questions in a wide variety of subjects. I am currently the moderator of the computer section.
