Installing A New Font

This icon is shown when WinZip is the installed decompression utility.

Font downloads are often "zipped" files, meaning they are compressed. If your font file has the ".zip" file extension, you will first need to "de-compress" the file. This example uses the "WinZip" compression utility program. If you don't have this utility installed, you can read about and download/install it by clicking here.

If your font is already unzipped, you can skip ahead to the "Install Font" section.

If you don't have a decompression utility, you will see this Flying Windows icon.

If the icon you're seeing looks like this one, then you will need to install the WinZip (or another) compression utility.

This option will appear first, if you're using the evaluation version.

If you're using a "evaluation" version of the WinZip program, you will first need to click on the "Agree" button, which will then open a window like the one shown below.

You can use this evaluation version to "Try before you buy" the program.

This is the WinZip Wizard, Click Next to complete this step and continue.

Open the font file you downloaded, In this example, the filename is "walt_disney_script.zip" Click on "Next".

I suggest using the WinZip Wizard, as shown here. Note the "WinZip Classic" button. You can click that to run WinZip in the classic mode if you prefer.

Click the No button to continue.

You can click the "No" to this dialog box.

I've never seen a reason to add "favorite" zip folders.

UnZip or Install is the default option.

The first option will be selected by default. Click the "Next" button.

"Default", means the setting that is automatically applied. "Factory" setting, if you will.

The C:\Unzipped folder is the default location.

The default "selected folder" is C:\unzipped\(then the folder name). Click the "Unzip Now" button.

You can access the C:\unzipped folder by opening the "My Computer" and then going to the "C:|" drive, then opening the "Unzipped" folder. Your font will be in the folder with the same name as the file.

"walt_disney_script" in this case.

Click the Install New Fonts command in the File menu.

Click Start/Settings/Control Panel/Fonts

or

Start/Control Panel/Fonts

Open the Fonts utility, then click the "File" menu, "Install New Font" command.

Check the dirve and folder where your unzipped font is stored.

1. Navigate to your C:\unzipped\font folder. In this example, the folder name is "walt_disney_script".

2. When you select the font folder, all font files contained in that folder will appear in the "list of fonts" section.

3. Select your font, then click "OK"

Clicking the "OK" button completes the font installation process.

Since the font name starts with a W, you can type in a W to quickly move to the font.

To use your font, open the program you want to use.

In this example, Word is open.

Using the Font Options box, scroll to the new "Walt Disney Script" font, and select it.

Then, select the desired font size.

Finally, you can now use your new font.

If you don't see the Font toolbar, use the Format/Font menu.

The Walt Disney Script font, shown here in size 20, Red color.
