How to Open Attachments

You can press the F11 key to view in full screen mode |

First, double click on the header to open the message. The Header is highlighted in the picture to the left. |

Then, double click on the Attached file. The attached file is highlighted in the image on the left. |

In the example shown above, the attachment is a simple text file, so it will just open when double clicked. Other file types will open a Security Warning window when double clicked, like the esample shown below: |

Notice, the "Save to Disk" option is checked by default. If you are sure the file is safe to open, select the first option, "Open it". I should mention, too that "Save to Disk" doesn't necessarily mean to save it to a floppy diskette (or other removable disk). It can be saved to your hard disk (hard drive). |

The attachment to an email is a file that you can open if you have the appropriate program installed on your computer. If by chance the attached file is from a person using AOL (America OnLine) the attachment may be a picture in the .art graphic format. If so, you can open it using your web browser program, "Internet Explorer". Click Here for details. |

The image on the left shows an attached file that has been right clicked. On the menu chose "Save As" to save the attachment for scanning by your AntiVirus software. |

I urge you to be cautious of viruses. It may be best to right click on the attachment and choose "Save As" and save the attachment to your desktop where you can use your virus scanning software (probably either McAfee or Norton AntiVirus) to scan it for viruses before opening it. |
